Brother Venes Laine

  • Formerly a lay brother with the Missionaries of the Poor for 15 years, Venes hails from Haiti. He worked mainly with disabled children as a MOP brother for 15 years.
  • He joined the Dominican Missionaries for the deaf apostolate in 2018 and is in his initial years of formation.
  • He is currently undertaking his 2nd year of Philosophy studies at the Holy Apostles’ seminary in Cromwell, CT.

    The founding of the Dominican Missionaries for the Deaf Apostolate has been largely a labor of love for our founder, Fr. Tom Coughlin. In 1977, Fr. Coughlin was the first deaf priest to be ordained in the United States. Since then, he has worked tirelessly to create opportunities for the deaf community within the Catholic Church.
